What is the mole? Moles are small mammals that are popular for creating tunnels underground in our lawn or garden. This animal is commonly found in Europe, South Africa, Asia, and North America.
They have long curved claws which can be used to burrow underground. They can easily create a long tunnel under the surface of the earth. You can quickly identify mole’s tunnel entrance by the mounds of earth that appear.
Today, there are 20 different species of mole. Some species are also aquatic or at least semi-aquatic. This means these mole species spend at least some of their time in the water. Moles are omnivores that feed and hunt earthworms. The saliva the mole contains a toxin that can paralyze small animals. This means that the mole can eat its catch easily, but they are also able to store food to eat later. Some of the larger mole species catch the small mice at the entrance of their tunnel for their foods.

Different species of the mole are quite similar in appearance and size from just 2 cm to 2 cm. They have very small eyes and ears and usually covered by fur. But, their sense of smell is great and can detect, catch and eat their foods (prey) so fast. They breed in early spring with the female moles gestation period lasting for about a month. Then, the female gives birth two until six babies. The baby moles will completely independent within a month after birth. Moles have been known to live until 6 or 7 years, but the average of their lifespan in about 4 years.
Natural Moles Animal Repellents
Mole does not harm your plants, but they create tunnel underground in your lawn, which makes your lawn look messy and dangerous to step in. Rather than using poisons, you can use natural repellents which more save for your children, pets, and environment.
Natural repellent can be as simple as planting vegetative barriers to the whole area that deters moles. These plants include daffodils, alliums, marigolds, and fritillarias, mole plant and castor beans. Although castor bean plant and mole plant can be used to repel moles, both plants are considered poisonous and should be not used around pets and children. Alternatively, you can use other repellents containing castor oil to get rid of the mole.
